Mandela joined the African National Congress (ANC)

Because he believed that all people should had same rights

The ANC's rival was the Apartheid

a social system which separated white Africans from Africans of other races.

He was arrested many times

In 1964 the government sentenced him to life
imprisonment

He spent 27 years in
prison

He wrote his autobiography, Long Walk To Freedom

in 1993 he shared the Nobel Peace Prize for ending theapartheid system.

He became the most famous prisoner and many people supported the Free Nelson Mandela movement
