Reproductive System Kaylee Lopez Per:2
Major functions of the Reproductive system (male and female)
-To produce egg and sperm cells
-Help transport and sustain these cells
-It nurtures and help develop the offspring
-To produce hormones
Anatomy of male reproductive structures
Testis:
Makes sperm and hormones
Seminiferous Tubules
: Produce sperm cells
Intersital Cells:
Produce and secrete male sex hormones
Epididmymis:
promotes sperm cell maturation, stores sperm
Ductus Deferns:
Conveys sperm cells to ejaculatory duct
Seminal Vesicle
: Secretes an alkaine fluid contanning nutrients and prostaglands that helps regulate PH of semen
Bulbourethal Gland:
Secretes fluid that lubricates end of penis
Scrotum:
Encloses, protects, and regulates temperture of testes
Anatomy of female reproductive structures
Ovary:
Produces oocytes and female sex hormones
Ulterine Tubes:
Conveys secondary oocyte toward uterus; site of fertilization; conveys developing embryo to uterus
Uterus:
Protects and sustains embryo during pregnacy
Vagina:
conveys uterine secretions to outside of body; realives errect penis during sexual intercourse; provides a passageway for offspring during birthing process
Labia Majora:
Enclosed and protects other external reproductive organs
Labia Minora:
Forms margin of vestibule; Protects opeings of vagina and uretha
Clitoris:
Produces feeling of pleasure during of pleasure during sexual stimulation due to abundant sensory nerve ending in glans
Vestibule:
Space between labia minora that contains vaginal and uretheral openings
Vestibular Gland:
Secretes fluid the moistens and lubricates vestibule.
Hormones of the reproductive system (male and female)
Female Hormones
Estrogen:
It helps breast development, sex organ enlargement, increased adipose tissue depostion, and increased vascularization of the skin
Progesterone:
This triggers the uterine which changes during the menstrual cycle
Androgens:
It produces the growth if pubic and axillary hair and because of the low androgen concentration allows the broadening of the hips
Male Hormones
Testosterone:
This helps with bone mass, fat distibution, muscle mass and strength, and also helps with the production of red blood cells and sperm
Follicle-Stimulating Hormone(FSH):
It helps control the production of sperm
Luteinizing Hormone (LH):
It helps the testicles make the production if testosterone
Events of the female hormonal cycles
1.Menstruation:
Which is the bleeding of the vagina every month
2.Follicular Phase:
It starts at the start of your period and helps prepare the release of the egg
3.Ovulation:
Ovulation is when your ovary is ready to release a mature egg
4. Luteal Phase:
It the phase that happens during ovulation and women's next menstrual cycle
Methods and Classification of contraceptives
Rhytem Method
: This is the method to pull the penis out if the vagina before ejculation
Mechanical Barriers
: It prevents the sperm from entering the vagina during sexual intercourse
Chemical Barriers:
It contains spermicdes which help prevent the sperm entering the vagina using several forms incuding condoms
Combined Hormone Contraceptives:
This contains estrogens and progestins which helps prevent women from getting pregnant
