Stronger age restrictions brackets
Getting passed age restrictions should become harder especially for younger users to prevent them being exposed to inappropriate content.
Weaknesses: People easily get passed age restrictions by lying about their age.
Strengths: Makes social media safer for all users. Parents will feel safer allowing their children to use the apps.
Opportunities: Allows all apps to strengthen their age barriers and prevent young users from reaching harmful content.
Threats: All social media apps would need to agree to this so that it can have an affect.
Harmful content reviewed and removed
All content should be approved by the app if safe to post. Any content that may be viewed as harmful or inappropriate should be removed immediately and the user should be banned from posting.
Threat: All companies and apps would need to agree to this change before it is implemented.
Strength: Easy way of removing and preventing harmful content from even reaching the users.
Weaknesses: Requires people to constantly monitor others activity on social media. People may see it as an invasion of privacy.
Opportunities: Creates a safer and more trustworthy app for all users.
Apps including time limits for younger users
All apps should include a time limit similar to a screen time automatically on the users that select a young ger age brackets. To prevent young users from spending to much time on social media apps.
Threats :All apps would need to agree to this otherwise the idea would not work
Strengths: Parents may feel safer with their children using social media.
Opportunities: Keep younger users safe while still allowing them to access social media apps.
Weaknesses: Might deter people from using the social media apps. People may create multiple accounts.
Easier to reach therapy for people who are suffering due to the effects of social media content.
Centres that provide support and educate people on dealing with harmful social media content. These should be easy to contact and open for everyone to use.
Threats: They would require money to keep this idea running for a long period of time.
Opportunities: Could run it as a charity within the community to keep it running
Weaknesses: Need people to run these support centres for a long period of time.
Strengths: Puts a positive look on social media. Improve the mental health of users.
Social media messages such always need to be accepted by the person receiving.
Even if you follow an individual you should still need to request to message them so that the other person can decide whether they want to message you too.
Weaknesses: People can use profiles which seem safe as a way to contact others.
Strengths: Prevents strangers from contacting you easily. Prevents harmful messages from reaching anyone without their consent.
Opportunities: Prevent harmful content through private messages. Create safer private messages.
Threats: Needs to be implemented by all social media apps. May deter some people from using the app.
All apps should include a warning or an educational page .
The apps should include an educational page during the induction of the app, educating people on the dangers of social media and how to use it properly.
Weaknesses: Can easily be skipped as the user may not want to view the page .
Opportunities: Educate all users on the risk of social media.
Strengths: Prepares people for what they may come across. Straight forward in getting the message across.
Threats: All apps would have to agree with the idea before it is implemented by everyone.
