METHODS:

DEEP CEMENT MIXING
in situations where the material displaced by either dredging or draining may be contaminated and hence need to be contained.
INFILLING
simplest method, filling the area with large amounts of heavy rocks and/or cement then filling with clay and dirt until desired height is reached. Material used is called INFILL.
LAND DREDGING
removal of sediments and debris from the bottom of water. Commonly used for maintaining reclaimed land masses ad sedimentation, a natural process, fills channels.

TYPES:
DERELICT LAND
land damaged by industrial or other development and beyond beneficial use without treatment (demolition and levelling). Land may have been abandoned or have unoccupied buildings in an advanced state of disrepair.
causes: human activities, sometimes by natural disasters. Poor farming methods and mining.
