Geography
Food Security
Its when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs
land degration
it affects food security because it reduces land productivity and helps contribute to climate change
a reduction of the productivity of rain
desertification
its affect on food security is that there would be less agricultural productivity and food production
its a process when a fertile land becomes like a desert
salinity
it can reduce crop supply and can completely eliminate crops
the amount of salts dissolved in water that is present
biofuels
it could raise food prices
all kinds of fuels that is derived from biomass that is plants, algae material or animal wastes
climate change
it affects the food production and availability, quality, access so in it infact actually impacts all aspects of food security
Its a long term change in temperature and weather patterns
food security in Australia
Australia has one of the worlds most secure food security because we have access to wide varieties of healthy/nutritious food since we produce more food that we consumes
Biomes
Area that have been classified according to the species, habitat thats there
Animal Adaptations
Most just migrate to warmer climates once cold weather begins but some just adapt to it like hibernating when temperatures drop, others may just produce layers of insulating feathers or fur to protect themselves form cold
Biome Importance
they help scientists study not only a specific plant or animal but also the role it plays in its community and the characteristics that it has developed to live in its environment
Plant Adaptations
there is many different plant adaptations for different environments example can be root structure, leaf waxing, night blooming, reproducing without seeds, drought resistance, leaf size, poisonous parts, brightly colour flowers
Climate Change
a long-term change in the average weather patterns that have come to define Earth's local, regional and global climates
Human Impact
we have alter these biomes by deforestation, accidentally introducing invasive species, hunting animals, polluting rivers, spraying pesticides, allowing livestock to graze in forests
Biomes In Australia
it is very flat, with a landscape made up of small trees and shrubs that pockmark a large open grassland i,t has a tropical climate and sees a copious amount of rainfall in the wet season
GRADT
Aquatic-a biome that covers 75% of earth with water
Desert-a extremely dry environment that are home to plants and animals that adapted very well to the biome
Rainforest-a hot and moist biome when it rains all year
Tundra-frozen landscape it has a short growing season, followed by harsh conditions the plants and animals need special adaptations to survive
Grassland-large open areas of grass inhabited by grazing animals
Mapping
its a way of presenting information of the world in a simpler form and visual way
Longitude and Latitude
Longitude-a measurement of location east or west of the prime meridian the line that passes through both geographic poles
Latitude-measurement on a globe or map of location north or south of the Equator
Grid Coordinates-evenly spaced horizontal and vertical lines used to identify locations on a map
Distance and Direction
direction-is a particular way to go to get some where , North, East, South, West
distance-its a measure of space between one place to another and can be measured in meters, kilometres, yard or miles
Oceans and Continents
Ocean
Pacific
Atlantic
Indian
Southern
Arctic
Continents
North America
Europe
Asia
Africa
Antarctica
South America
Australia
SPICESS
Change-its about analysing how landscapes, landforms change over time
Interconnection-can be known as webs of connection so no object, geographical studies can be in isolation meaning evrything is connected
Place-significance of a landscape and what it’s features are
Space-the way people organise/manage space they live in also the concept of it its significant of the location
Environment-is the significant of environments in a living things life association between them
Sustainability- the capacity of environments to support our lives or other life forms
Scale-is the different perspectives of the geographical phenomena/problems
Prime Meridian Equator- a circle that go all the way around the world it separates the eastern and western hemispheres
BOLTSS
Title-tells us whats on a map (basic sum up)
Scale-since we cant draw things into there actual size we use a scale which helps us to decrease the size correctly eg 1:25000 =1cm represents 250meters
Legend-uses a list of symbols used on a map to show what each symbol means (also known as a key)
Orientation-its a a orientation that shows us the direction and is shown by using compass or a arrow pointing north
Border-used to show a edge of a map it will look like a simple box around the map it would usually stand out
Source-something that shows where the information used to make the map came from
