A Co- production between Sweeden and Denmark

They were able to film in two different countires
Challenges included travelling the actors, abiding each countries laws
Co productions are becoming much more popular

Danish Production Company - Nimbus Film
Because some of the funding for the series came from the Copenhagen Film Fund , it meant they had to employ more Danish cast and Crew.
The Funding From Creative Europe Media, gave them the resources to achieve a high budget , high quality feel to the show.

In Sweeden, The Bridge was broadcasted on SVT1
(SVT is a large public service broadcasting channel in Sweden) They are there to serve the public so no advertisments- same as BBC
SVT have their own production studios in Malmo, so part of the series was filmed ther. Using in house recourses and saved money.
'Foreign Language" Programmes are still often considered quite niche by broadcasters and audiences.
In Denmark, The Bridge was Broadcasted on DR1
DR1 is also a public service broadcaster and license fee funded
Denmark is a small country and almost everyone there watches DR content
(Considered to be a mainstream broadcaster )
In the UK, The Bridge was broadcasted on BBC 4
The BBC is also a Public Service Broadcaster and lis licence fee funded.
BBC 4 focuses on showing programmes that are feature arts, music and culture.
BBC 4 showed the Bridge at 9pm on a Saturday (Peak Viewing slot.)
9pm is BBC 4's dedicated time slot to showing foreign language drama - so is a great way of targeting fans of this genre.
(All Three Channels mentioned re funded by license fees which means that they aren't under pressure from advertisers to attract huge audiences.)
They're funded regardless of how many people watch.
Th4 Show was broadcast in over 174 countries and there were 4 seasons made in total.
There was an American Remake as well as others
The fact that there were remakes reflects Hesmondalgh's ideas about companies maximising their profit and minimising risk by reusing successful formats.
Ofcom regulate content shown on UK television to ensure it doesn't break rules about aspects such as violence, sex, drugs, etc
The Gruesome nature of some of the scenes may explain why the BBC chose to broadcast it at 9pm , after the water shed.
The Use of player means that audiences can watch it whenever they want. Therefore making regulation much harder due to recent technology
Piracy is a current issue as spoilers are uploaded online.
So they chose to control the availability of the show (Hesmodalgh) by broadcasting each episode in both Sweden an d Denmark simultaneousously.
