Sampling techniques
Simple random
example: drawing names from a hat (must ensure all population's name are in the hat)
Systematic
each member of the population is assigned a number. a starting number is randomly selected and sample members are selected at regular intervals
Stratified
division within strata must be homogeneous but between strata must be heterogeneous
Cluster
Dividing the population into clusters and randomly selecting a number of clusters to study
Level of measurement
Interval
negative value holds value/meaning (eg: -10 celcius)
Ratio
negative numbers hold no value/meaning
Ordinal
numbers can be ranked (eg: grades A,B,C)
Nominal
