March 25th Strike Review
Social Media
What went well
doing 500 ppl went rly well
harassing youth orgs on insta
Denise challa + Keelin Moncreiff
Harrising student unions works well
drug take over
TikTok Cara = icon
liked the colour scheme = bold
axolotl
everyone was engaged
What didn't go so well
the give away didn't go so well should
of been posted on national, the graphic
could of been better, requirements overboard
the narrative was messy,
maybe would of gotten more people if it was not
yellow and pink = girly ??
What we'd do next strike
be confident with posting
make a calendar and work
backwards re posting automatic
check twitter more frequently
stick with the global climate strike narative,
prevents with the messyiness
more faces and photos on feed rather than just colour
algorithm promotes more faces
check out the opportunities to manage social media.
be confident
Press
-
What didn't go so well
press coordinator
we did not have a narative
press did not work as a team initially
What you'd do next time
create a press runner for the strike
wear baggy jumpers to strikes and clothes your comfortable to
be in on press
find legit contact for RTE
write a list of names
action points in to
no header in press release
Speakers + Performance
-
What didn't go so well
Pierre stayed on for too long
arrange the speaker schedule in advance
split up songs
cutting speakers that were not us looked rly poor
-
Logistics
What went well
the stage was ordered in advance
Parch was a great runner on the day
the stage looked fab
the outreach table organisation was great, the lil group organising themselves without the whole group tbeing 'too many cooks' worked nicely
Pink high vis looked goood
Toto's Mum Geraldine 🌟
What didn't go so well
did not organise speakers in advance
there was no designated strike organiser, Toto was carrying a lot.
speakers did not send in there speeches, which delayed the strike schedule being finalised to 10 mins before the strike
the plan for set up before the strike was not detailed so no one knew what they were supposed to be doing
there was no designated press area
ppl ran infant of the stage
no designated press area
stewards - were not organised, and Yvonne (organiser stewards) told us she couldn't come only the night before
What we'd do next time
designate roles for the day ie.
General Strike Team Organiser + back up = knows what's going on everywhere at every time
Press Organiser + back up = tells press where they can interview, who they can interview, and keeps tracks of interviews / media footage during the strike
Runner + back up = manages speakers and when the need to go on / come off stage
Stewards Organiser + back up = manages stewards
Stage and Sound + back up = manages the stage ppl + sound
Create and in-depth schedule of the strike set up, who does what and at what time, on the day of the strike
Get speakers to send in full speeches at least 3 days in advance full stop. It allows there to be wiggle room in the schedule if anyone falls ill prior to, and allows the MC's to prepare
Outreach
What went well
getting free stuff from organisations
the outreach table
doing flying with the date
fleering and postering around town
What didn't go so well
the master spreadsheet was not followed up
outreach call should have been planned in advance
-
Finance
What went well
should of had a plan futrther in advance of ordering promotional materials
we didn't order way to much promotional
-
What we'd do next strike
use stickers for promo not just strike
use the eco printers
make sure the go fund me is further up and running
promotional materials working group / call
apply for funding
THE FUTURE
what would you like to see at the next strike that does not come under any of the above headings that we could improve on
-
