This activity will be offered after children have had time and experience to freely explore the digital cameras. Once children can showcase a basic understanding for operating the digital camera, the teacher can implement the following activity.
The teacher will print, or hand write the number 0-10 (or higher) on pieces of paper. The teacher will then encourage the children to find objects around the classroom or outside to build the number (one to one correspondence). Children will take photographs of their completed work.
Resources: Digital cameras and printed or handwritten number cards.

Although the focus of this activity is to explore 1:1 correspondence and numeral recognition, there is flexibility to ...
... build numerals with the found objects (or build letters, free build etc)
-
... identify and compare measurable attributes, such as longest to shortest.
-
... use the found objects as a non-standard unit of measure to measure other things (e.g How many sticks tall are you?)
... print the photographs for a future bookmaking activity. (Note: Teachers should ask students permission to print photographs, in effort to encourage the development of appropriate digital citizenship)

Checklist, with anecdotal notes.
Teachers are encouraged to make their own check lists according to the group’s current abilities. The check list should encompass the aligned standards, as well as any other pertinent information needed. Additional information may include: The ability to follow one step, two step, or three step directions. The ability to use socially appropriate behaviors during a small group activity. The ability to persist in and complete the activity. And more!

Learning Objectives:
Children will practice regulating their strong emotions (For example: Children will practice taking deep breathes when in need for help).
