tropical rainforests, sustainable management - Coggle Diagram
tropical rainforests
-
Adaption in plants
-
plants have thick waxy leaves with pointed drip tips meaning water doesn't gather on the leave which would allow fungi and bacteria to grow there
trees have smooth thin bark as there is no need to protect from cold temperatures and allows water to run off easily
-
-
-
tropical rainforests
There are lots of epiphytes(plants that grow on other living plants and take on nutrients and moisture from the air)eg: orchids and ferns
-
-
sustainable management
tropical Rainforest produce products eg,rubber ,chocolate and medicines
protecting the rainforest may reduce the greenhouse effect by reducing co2 emissions and allowing trees to continue absorbing co2
-
selective logging
only some trees are cut down keeping the rainforests canopy and soil inst exposed allowing forest regeneration
least damaging logging, horse logging and helicopter logging
ecotourism
benefits local people by creating a source of income
minimises damage to environment
when' local people are employed by ecotourism means they dont have to log or farm meaning less trees are cut down
education
educating the international community about impacts of deforestation encourages them to buy sustainably
teaching people about alternative jobs
conservation
national parks are set up where logging is restricted
national government agreements for funds to enforce these laws are often made
promoting sustainability
international hardwood agreements
these agreements are put in place to try and prevent illegal logging of valuable woods, mahogany and teak and promote sustainable forest management
