How is latitude and longitude measured?
Latitudes and longitudes are measured in degrees (°) because they represent angular distances. Each degree is further divided into 60 minutes ( ' ) and each minute into 60 seconds ( “ ).
The scale on a map shows the size of the area represented by the map. For example, a scale of 1:10,000 on a map means that 1 mm on the map is the same as 10,000 mm in reality. 10,000 mm is the same as 10 m. Different maps have different scales, such as 1:50,000 or 1:25,000.

Climate is the long-term pattern of weather in a particular area. Weather can change from hour-to-hour, day-to-day, month-to-month or even year-to-year. A region's weather patterns, usually tracked for at least 30 years, are considered its climate. Photograph by Walter Meayers Edwards, National Geographic. Image.

What are mapping skills?
A Mind Map is a diagram for representing tasks, words, concepts, or items linked to and arranged around a central concept or subject using a non-linear graphical layout that allows the user to build an intuitive framework around a central concept.
Map skills help us read maps and ascertain information from their symbols and scales. They're essential for directions, recognising the different features of a landscape and more. Learning map skills is an important element of Geography for KS2 children.
BOLTSS is an acronym. It helps us to remember the 6 essential features of a map. It stands for: Border, Orientation, Legend, Title, Scale and Source. A legend (or key) is a list of symbols used on a map, that tells us what each symbol means
condensation, precipitation, infiltration, runoff, and evapotranspiration.

r considers the physical water features, especially the surfacewater features, such as watersheds and the streams, lakes, swamps, etc within watersheds.
A mind map involves writing down a central theme and thinking of new and related ideas which radiate out from the centre. By focusing on key ideas written down in your own words and looking for connections between them, you can map knowledge in a way that will help you to better understand and retain information.

Using new high-resolution simulations, researchers conclude that climate change made the Cape Town 'Day Zero' drought five to six times more likely and suggest extreme drought events could become common in southwestern South Africa by the end of the 21st century.
