Special Education Referral Process, Hannah Jackel - Coggle Diagram
Special Education Referral Process
1.) Identification of student with special needs.
2.) Consultation with school staff and specialists.
3.) Monitoring and assessment.
GET, English teacher, and student's homeroom teacher monitor the student in class to determine if further action is required.
If the student continues to struggle in class, the school counselor will perform an assessment to determine the child's needs.
4.) Evaluation.
5.) Intervention
6.) Referral
If the detailed education plan does not improve the student's education, the student will be referred to an outside counseling service as deemed appropriate by the school officials.
Based on results of evaluation, a detailed education plan will be written and distributed to all teachers, including the GET.
NOTE: Although the education plan will be more centered on the student's Korean-language classes, the GET must be made aware of the plan to better include the student in English classes.
After completion of the assessment, the school counselor will make recommendations on the student's needs to the GET, English teacher, and other subject teachers.
Teachers will continue monitoring the student to determine if the strategies recommended by the school counselor are sufficient.
