Child protection has become a recognised feature of professional practice in education, health, law and social care services for children and young people. Decisions to implement policies for safeguarding children and young people can be traced to a number of influences, such as media coverage of high-profile child abuse cases, such as Victoria Climbié, as well as changes in child welfare and law. Research in the area of Childhood Studies, Education and Law have provided important insights and new ways of thinking which have shaped many of the changes we see today.
