TOPIC 24 HUMAN DEVELOPMENT IN ECUADOR
Until the ‘30s of the 20th century, this was called PROGRESS, but then the concept of
development began to be used as a synonym of well-being and wealth. In 1990, the United
Nations published its first global report on HUMAN DEVELOPMENT causing a historic
change in this conception.
There are three basic guidelines that the State should undertake for human development:
✓ STRENGTHENING OF HUMAN CAPITAL in the fields of education, nutrition, health and infrastructure.

According to human development there are four essential components:
✓ EQUITY: Sense of equal opportunities for all:
✓ SUSTAINABILITY: So that the new generations
have the same welfare as the current ones.
✓ PRODUCTIVITY: What it means to promote a
favorable environment so that people can develop
their potential.
✓ EMPOWERMENT: Understanding that development must always have the
participation of people.
Inequity, the persistence of poverty, unemployment, underemployment and economic
informality have allowed a complete human development. That is why it is necessary to
direct public policies and international resources for development, the fruits of economic
growth and technological progress towards the eradication of poverty, social inequality and
guarantee of sustainability.
