Ideas for new studies
Inspiration
Dissatisfied with current existing theories
Hypothesis
"why does this happen?"
Research designs
Observational
Ethnography
attempting to understand a group by observing from the inside
Archival analysis
examining the accumulated documents, or archives, of a culture
Experimental
Randomly assigning participants to different conditions and ensures that these condition are identical except for the independent variables
Correlational
Measuring two or more variables are systematically measured and the relationship between them is assessed
How?
By calculating the correlation coefficient (positive & negative)
Ethical issues
Informed consent
Agreement to participate in an experiment, granted in full awareness of the nature of the experiment, which has been explained in advance

External validity
To what extent can the results of the study be generalized to other people or situations
Survey
A research method where a representative sample of people are asked question about their attitudes
Internal validity
Making sure that nothing besides the independent variables can affect the dependent variable
