Stored set of data libraries required by organizations and individuals to meet their information processing and retrieval needs
Structures of a Database
A data definition language: It is the language used by programmers to specify the content and structure of the database.
A data handling language: A conjunction with some third or fourth generation programming language is used to handle the data in the database.
A data dictionary is an automated or manual file that stores
definitions of the data elements and their characteristics
Database Components
Tables: component of a database that stores information regarding a given entity. It should be noted that the tables can be related to each other by means of a key field.
Fields: component of the tables, which identifies each of the attributes of
the data to store.
Records: data related to an entity, thing or person that is stored
in each of the tables in the corresponding fields.

Attribute: element of information that describes a particular entity.
Information Architecture
File server: is a computer on a network that stores various
programs and data files for network users.
Index server: In imaging systems, a device that stores the indexes that allow a user to identify and retrieve a specific document.
