Peer Pressure is a big social factor that leads teenagers to do drugs. Peer pressure is connected to conformity --- following along to do what everyone else is doing. Once a teenager starts to experiment with drugs and alcohol, they may start to abuse it.

The environment where a teenager is surrounded by is a very important factor that leads them to abuse drugs and alcohol. For example, if a teenager goes to a school where many students are doing drugs and alcohol, in order to fit in they may also join it (conforming)
Another thing said in one of these related sources is that the influence of home, adverse childhood experiences may make teenagers want an escape and want to be surrounded be people who relate to them.

These two areas closely relate. If a teenager is in an environment that is surrounded by people who are not informed and do drugs, without the necessary adult supervision and with access, they can also do drugs and alcohol.
