Star types
o Main sequence stars – the majority of stars, converting H to He, in a state of hydrostatic equilibrium.
o Red giants – stars that have consumed all its hydrogen in its core. It expanded due to the ignition of the shell of hydrogen around the core. Will collapse to a white dwarf when there is no more hydrogen fuel.
o Blue giant – very hot, very large stars. Will either form a neutron star or a black hole after supernova.
o White dwarf – a star that has consumed all its hydrogen and lacks mass to fuse higher elements. It is small and very hot, however, as no fusion is taking place anymore it will cool down to the background radiation temperature.
