Fluids Unit - Coggle Diagram
Fluids Unit
Pressure
-
Higher ALTITUDE: air is less dense, thinner, less air pressure
Lower ALITITUDE: air is more dense, thicker, more air pressure
-
Less DEPTH: less pressure
Fluids will always move from an area of higher pressure to an area of lower pressure

Fluid Systems
DEFINITION: a group of parts, including at least one fluid, that function together as a whole
Pascal's Law
When force is applied to an enclosed fluid, the increase in pressure is transmitted equally to all parts of the fluid.
Hydraulic Systems
-
Eg. Squeezing toothpaste tube
Pneumatic Systems
DEFINITION: systems that use a gas, usually air, under pressure to transmit a force and do work.
Eg. Bicycle pump
-
-
Pump
-
Eg. Heart pumps blood to your lungs and through your body
Valves
-
Eg. valves controlling water flowing through a faucet
-
Compression
-
Eg.

Buoyancy & Buoyant Force
Buoyancy: the tendency of an object in a fluid to rise or sink due to density differences with its surroundings
-
-
Plimsoll Line
-
Viscosity & Flow Rate
Viscosity: the resistance of a fluid to flow, thickness or thinness
Temperature of a liquid increases: viscosity decreases, flow rate increases
Temperature of a liquid decreases: viscosity increases, flow rate decreases
Temperature of a gas increases: viscosity increases, flow rate decreases
Temperature of a gas decreases: viscosity decreases, flow rate increases
