reproductive system Jocelyn Escandon Period - 04-07-22
major function of the male and female system
Testis- produce sperm cels
Epididymis - promotes sperm cell maturation; atores sperm cells ; conveys sperm cell to ductus deferens
Ductus deferenes - conveys sperm celld to ejaculatory duct
seminal vesicle - seceretes an alkaline fluid containing nutrients and prostaglandins that helps regulate pH of semen
Prostate gland - secretes a fluid thatconatins citrate , a nutrient for sperm
bulbourethral gland - secretes fluid that lubricates end of penis
Penis -Conveys urine and semen to outside of body; inserted
into vagina during sexual intercourse; the glans penis is
richly supplied with sensory nerve endings associated
with feelings of pleasure during sexual stimulation
FEMALE
Ovary -Produces oocytes and female sex hormones
uterine tube - conveys secondary oocyte toward uterus ; site of fertilization; conveys devopling embryo to uterus
uterus - protects and sustains embryo during pregnancy
vagina - conveys uterine secretions to outside of body ; recievec erect penis during sexual intercource; provides a passageway for offspring during birth process
labia majora - enclose and prtoect other external reproductive organs
labia minora - forms margins of vestibule ; protect openngs of vagina and urethra
clitoris - produces feelings of pleasure during sexual stimulation due to abundant sensory nerve endings in glans
Vestubule - space between labia minora that contains vaginal and urethral openings
vestibular glands - secrete fluid that moistens and lubricates vestiblule

hormones od the reproductive ( male and female )
FEMALE
Estrogens - responsible for female secondary secual chractertcs, such as breaste develpment , sex organ , enlargment increased adipose tissue depositions and increased vascularization
Androgens also play a role - produce some charnges at pubert, such as growth of pubic and axillary hair ; low androgen concetraction allows the broadening of the hips.
MALE
Androgens - male sex hormes - testrone is the most importat one
Stimulate develpoment of male reprodcutive organs
Respnsilble ofr mle secondary sexual charctericts
Disorders associated with the reproductive system
Acquiered immune deficiency syndrome - human immunodfeficency - fever weakos, infections , cancer
Chlamydia infection- chalmaydia trachomatis bacteria - painful urination and intercourcse mucous discharge from penis or vagina - antibodies
Gnetial herpes - herpes simplex 2 virus - gential sores , fever ,
methods and classification of conteaceptives -
Coitus interruptus - withdraw of penis from vagina beofre ejaculation; not very effective ; some sperm may reach vagna beofre ejaculation
mechanical barrirs - prevent sperm from entering vagina during sexual intercource ; ecmaples ; male or female condoms , diaphram, cervical cap
chemical barriers - contain spermicides ; are more effective when used with a condom ; exaples crams , foams , jellies
combine hormone contraceptives -contain estrogen and
progestins to prevent pregnancy; disrupt normal hormonal
patterns of female cycle, and prevent follicle maturation and
ovulation; examples: chemical ring, patch, oral contraceptives
Injectable Contraception: injection of a progesterone derivative
prevents follicle maturation and ovulation; works for 3 months
Contraceptive implants ; implantion of a rod contianing protestin under the skin in the arms can prevent follicle maturation and ovulation for 3 years.
