Perichondritis
Definations
Is the inflammation of the covering of cartilage of the pinna called perichondrium
Pathophysiology
is primarily caused by pseudomonas aeruginosa and staphylococcus aureus.
Infected person will present with an erythematous, swollen, hot external ear, with sparing of the lobule
Pus may also be present
Clinical manifestation
Pain
Swelling of pinna forming abscess
Fever
Redness of Auricle

Care plan
Acute pain related to inflammation the goal is to reduce pain.assess pain as per scale by giving information to assess the response to intervention.Give analgesia to reduce pain.replace the fuse when experiencing auditory canal oedema to keep canal open.
Anxiety related to lack of knowledge about the disease goal is to reduce anxiety and less signs of restlessness in the patient.
Listen carefully to what the client is saying about the disease and actions, listening enables the detection and correction of the misconceptions and misinformation.
Refer patients to speech and hearing therapy if there is loss of hearing
Always wash hands
Application of soothing heat
Complete course of antibiotics

Pus from ear
Pain and tenderness of the pinna
Redness and itching of the skin lining ear
Erythema and oedema that may be severe
Care plan
Risk for infection related to lack of knowledge about infection in children as evidence by ear pain and Irritability the goal is relieve child from infection and further complications
Intervention and Rationale
Teach family members about personal hygiene preventing spread of pathogens
Eliminate tobacco use as its increases otitis media
Put infant in upright position preventing pathogens from entering eustichian tube
Dry swab and gently remove discharge
Give antibiotics and make sure they complete course
