COMPOSITE CLASS 2 matrix band
1placing Tofflemire
upside down
overhang IP
right side up
didn't burnish moved on to place material
open or light contact
poor occlusal embrasure space
poor interproximal embrasure
burnish well
move on to wedging
burnish so so
light contact but poor inter-proximal and occlusal embrasure shape. Contact high or low
2 Placing wedge
forgot
overhang, poor inter-proximal shape below the contact
wedge until resistance noted
light contact wide occlusal embrasure
good form interproximal
wedge until resistance noted then pushed in just a little more
good IP form, good contact, good
3 filling the prep
fill the box tinbrdilly or plugger lots of alcohol
push composite into corners of the prep and contact with pointed end
composite smoshes around instrument may pull out of prep. voids or incomplete material fill.
push composite into corners and contact with side of instrument whenever possible using overlapping strokes
4 light cure and move on to occlusal anatomy/marginal ridge
place composite gun in deepest part of prep and fill
over fill the prep a little above cavo surface margin
Great! begin froming anatomy
use non-bladed instrument to form marginal ridge
too soon! go back on work on occlusal anatomy pushing excess material toward the miesial if MO or distal if DO
use tinbrdilly to shape cusps resting on the cavo surface margin with a
flat
angulation and the Shoshan in a pulling motion to define the buccal and lingual grooves
walk material toward marginal ridge with overlapping strokes. Use plenty of alcohol

smooth material by pulling toward marginal ridge with plenty of alcohol

use tinbrdilly to shape cusps resting on the cavo surface margin and the Shoshan in a pulling motion to define the buccal and lingual grooves with a
steep
angulation connecting the cavosurface margin to the central groove. This will from the cusp and groove at once.
sounds fast right? Unfortunately this makes the cusps too steep. Remember they should look like puffy pyramids.
fill the prep to cavosurface margin
not enough material add more before forming anatomy
grossly overfill material
no biggie you just wasted some material. walk the excess toward the mesial or distal and use a bladed instrument to cut the excess off
fill the box amalgam plugger
composite sticks to plugger and pulls out. IP voids
light cure
