Major Functions of Reproduction System (Male and Female)
Male: To produce sperm to fertilize eggs
Female: To produce eggs and mature + support fertilized oocyte
Anatomy of Male Structures
Testis, gians penis, epididymus, prostate, ductus (vas) deferens, seminal gland, bulbo-urethral duct, rectum, urethra, ejaculatory duct, scrotum, tunica vaginalis and albuginea, seminiferous tubules

Vagina, myometrium, endometrium, perimetrium, cervix, body of uterus, ovary, fimbriae, uterine (fallopian) tube, fundus, infundibulum, ovarian ligament, suspensory ligament, ovarian follicles, fundus, isthmus, mammary glands
Hormones of Reproduction System
Estrogens
: promote oogenesis and follicular growth in the ovaries and growth of secondary sex characteristics
Progesterone
: promotes changes in cervical mucus and regulates uterine cycle with estrogen
GnRH
:stimulates the production of FSH and LH secretion
FSH and LH
: stimulate follicle to grow, mature, and secrete sex hormones
Events of Female Hormonal Cycles
Ovarian Cycle
Follicular phase
: vesicular follicular growth (days 1-14)
Luteal phase
: corpus luteal activity (days 14-28)
Menstrual Cycle
Menstrual phase
: sheds stratum functionalis for 3-5 days (days 1-5)
Proliferate phase
: ovulation occurs in the middle (days 6-14)
Secretory phase
: when follicles degenerate

Testicular cancer
: painless, solid mass
Prostatitis
: leads to prostate cancer
Cervical cancer
: from cervical inflammation, STIs, or multiple pregnancies
Breast cancer
: from epithelial cells of small ducts to become metastasize
Trichomoniasis
: STD caused by infection with protozoan parasite called trichomonas vaginalis
AIDS/HIV
: weakens immune system by destroying important cells that fight disease and infection
HPV/Genital Warts
: common STIs caused by HPV
PID
: pelvic inflammatory infection of female reproductive system
Syphilis
: STD that has serious complications if not treated and caused by sores
Genital Herpes
: STD by herpes simplex
Chlamydia
: can be hard to get pregnant
Gonorrhea
: causes very serious complications when untreated
Hepatitis
: viral infection that can cause serious health problems and has 3 different types

: cutting and ligating ductus

Sterilization: surgical procedures to permanently prevent pregnancy
Coitus interruptus: remove penis before ejaculation during intercourse

: permanently prevents pregnancy by cutting and tying off

: releases hormones to prevent pregnancy

: by mouth everyday at the same time

: object inside vagina with spermacides

inside vagina to prevent pregnancy

: over penis to prevent pregnancy
