Identity of narrator + degree and manner to which that identity is expressed +choices that are implied = character/feel of the text.

Narratives traditionally categorised according to the voice of the speaker i.e "first-person" or "third-person".
When narrator does not identify as a character = external narrator. When narrator identifies as a characters = character-bound narrator
External narrator = tells about the events of others. Character-bound narrator tells about events pf themselves.
