Electricity and direct current circuits
REPRESENTING CIRCUITS:ELECTRICAL SCHEMATICS:
We represent electrical circuits with a very simple drawing called an electrical schematics.Every component in a circuit has a standardised symbol to represent it in a simple way that anybody can understand
COMPONENTS OF A CIRCUIT: POWER
SOURCES
COMPONENT*
:
Cell
: supplies electrical energy to the rest of the circuit, cell have a positive and a negative terminal
*BATTERY
: Is a grouped set of cells
LOCAL DEVICES:
Motor:
converts electrical enrgy to light energy
Buzzer
:converts electrical energy to sound energy
Lamp:
converts electrical energy to light enegy
Resistor
: a load device that opposes the flow of the electric current.Converts electrical energy to heat energy.
CONDUCTORS:
Wire: the component that the electric current flows through
CONTROL DEVICES:
Push switches
: open and close the circuit but only while the button is pushed
TWO-WAY SWITCH:
Two-way switches have two positions. When we press them, they change from one position to the other
ONE -WAY SWITCH
:One-way switches open or close the circuit when they are pressed
OPEN CIRCUITS AND CLOSED CIRCUITS:SHORT CIRCUITS
A circuit is
open
when the energy of the power source cannot reach the load devices, so the electric current cannot flow
A circuit is
closed
when the energy of the power source reaches the load devices, so the electric current flows.
SHORT CIRCUITS
In a electric circuit, a short circuit occurs when the electric current is transported by the wires without passing through a load device
TYPES OF CIRCUITS:SERIES, PARALLEL AND SERIES-PARALLEL COMBINATION
Series circuits
:in the circuits, all the components are connected one after the other
Parallel circuits:
in these circuits, the load devices are connected on different branches of the wire
Circuits can have different characteristics depending on how we arrange the load devices
