- - - - These questions eventually lead to many of the questions that came to life during the issue proposal
  - - - Questions throughout the essay are mainly focused on three aspects: people, animals and the environment
        
        Environment
        
        "How have communities surrounding large factory farms been impacted as a result of
        their close proximities to waste, noise, smells and environmental damage produced by the farms?"
        
        Communities surrounding factory farms have had to deal with a lot as a result of their close proximities to these facilities. They have to deal with environmental disturbances like waste spray from ponds as well as terrible smells as a result of things like burning blood and massive amounts of fecal matter (S1),(S7)
        
        Have we been able to see the toll factory farming has had on the environment already?
        
        yes, the environmental tolls are already visible in the communities and areas surrounding large scale factory farms, however the toll is hard to calculate at this point since not much money is going into researching the impacts (S7)
        
        There is still a great deal of impacts not yet seen by or understood by scientists and in the coming years there will definitely by much more literature about the subject (S7)
        
        Animals
        
        " What impact does factory farming have on the health and quality of the animal products
        being produced at these types of facilities? "
        
        There is some controversy surrounding whether or not the quality of product being produced on factory farms truly differs from that grown on a "traditional" farm (S4)
        
        Many say because of the industrial diets being fed to the animals on factory farms, the products are of lower quality and can be worse for human health (S4)
        
        There is also growing evidence that ethical farms can produce products of higher quality, but that is still up for debate (S5)
        
        Since the scale of operations, type of operation, type of animal and many other factors vary from farm to farm the health and quality of life animals in factory farms varies greatly (S6,S2)
        
        This is not to say it is good by any means, just that there is a wide range of how animals are raised and treated, with a good portion of that being improper, inhumane and unsanitary (S5, S3)
        
        People
        
        People questions are very closely related to both animals and the environment questions since people are responsible for the toll factory farming has on these things
        
        What are realistic alternatives to factory farms? Would they be able to produce enough animal products to meet demand?
        
        It is tough to say what a real alternative to a factory farm would be. Americans consume such large quantities of factory farmed animals and animal products that an alternative would be hard to implement on a scale large enough to keep up with demand (S5)
        
        Despite this challenge there are possible alternatives, like changing polices surrounding animal treatment and factory farms, consuming less animal products, using traditional or ethical farms as a source of animal products just to name a few (S1, S5)
        
        Ethical Farms?
        
        Ethical farms are in the people category since they are run by people and are used by people, but they can be correlated with both animals and the way that they are treated from birth to slaughter, but also the environment and how it is impacted by large scale factory farms (S1)
    - - Taking the audiences perspective while thinking about how to research the answers to these questions specifically really helped to not only narrow down the research but also helped to understand the audience and gain some of their emathy
        
        The audience in this topic can be broad since nearly every American is impacted by factory farming in one way or another, whether that be from eating the products of factory farming, working in or with a factory farm, living near a factory farm and many more.
        
        But alas we must narrow down our target audience to something more specific and something that can be actually persuaded
        
        Since the topic is so encompassing of many different types of populations effects, the most important thing to picking a target audience was picking the right target audience
        
        After considering the options I landed on the audience of people who work in the factory farms and people who live near such facilities
        
        I landed on this topic because these are the people being MOST effected by factory farms, the people that the see the impacts of these facilities, whether that be on people, animals of the environment, in real life
        
        This target audience is concise enough to where I can actually write to it, unlike the entirety of the American population who impacted by factory farming, which is quite a large bit of it
        
        narrowing down a target audience can be a very difficult thing to do, but being more specific is always beneficial in the grand scheme of things
    - - Research to find out these questions and more later in the essay after deciding what questions are needed to be addressed for audience persuasion
