The monetary value of a ration is called the Basic Daily Food Allowance (BDFA) and is set by NAVSUP N42

Total rations served for the day
Used with BDFA to determine your monetary allowance for the day
BDFA, special/supplemental, and Prime Vendor allowances come from the quarterly NAVSUP Note 7330
Each meal represents part of a ration
Breakfast – 25%
Lunch – 40%
Dinner – 35%
Rations allowed are provided by the Yeoman via the muster report

Total rations sold for cash or credit from NAVUSP form 1046 and DD form 1544 are posted
Total rations in kind from headcounts (in port) and muster report (at sea) are posted
Total dollar value of food items issued for each day from NAVSUP form 1282 are posted
Payment Procedures(Submarines)
All meals sold on credit basis
FSO furnishes NAVSUP 1046 by 5th of each month to resolve disputes
FSO must submit to TOPS or transmit by Naval message by 10th of each month
