In 2006, the Swedish central bank allocated SEK 6.5 million to the Nobel Foundation every year to pay the selection and management expenses of the award, and an additional SEK 1 million to make the relevant information of the award included on the Nobel Foundation's official website.

In 1900, King Oscar II of Sweden issued a new regulation of the Nobel Foundation. The constitution was changed to "works created now" or "works that only show their significance now". The concept of "literary works" was extended to "works with literary value", that is, including historical and philosophical works.
Mo Yan, who won the Nobel Prize for Chinese literature from the Swedish Academy of literature, became the first Chinese writer in November 2012.
