Dualing Dualism
Intersex and trans
"Patiño's cells sported a Y chromosome and her labia hid testes within. She had neither ovaries nor a uterus."
This is crucial because many people still think that genitals and ability to bear children indicates a person's sex or gender. People that have multiple organs or different chromosomes or different genitalia challenge this norm and I think this is why so many people refuse to learn about it. I have been stumping so many people with like "if there is really only two genders "naturally" then what do we make of people who don't fall into this category and also born naturally?" Many people don't like to think about this becuase it challenges the patriarchy
The patriarchy is built on the idea of man and women and women are inferior. Every sexist or patriarchal action a man takes towards a woman is because he is a man. And when we take that gender "norm" or sterotype out of the equation (when we see people for humans instead of their gender) we see the true force and nature of these actions. Thats why sraight men especially cling to the idea of gender. As I have been an advocate for the LGBTQ community and gender equality, that means taking to consideration people that don't fall under either gender and furthermore accepting that. Many straight men can't do this becuase it exposes their actions and senseless things they have done to women under the name sake of their gender.
"Many doctors declare the child a girl, despire the penis, because of her potential to give birth, and intervene using surgey and hormones to carry out the decision."
This quote struck me as patricularly important because, especially recently, many people who deny that trans people exist claim that the hormone therapy being available to some children is child abuse because the parent is making a decision about the child's gender or sex before the child can. But if we showed those people this same quote what would they think? Is this not exactly the parents choosing the child's gender for them because what they gave birth to naturally didn't fit societies norms?
From what I know about the hormone therapy available to children is that it is exactly that: hormone therapy that they can reverse later on if the child so chooses. To me, this is better than the parent just deciding to give the child surgery or hormones because they don't like what they were given by nature. If I was informed that my parents did this to me I would be very betrayed.
The crazy thing is some people would see this as simply necessary in order to make the child fit to standards, yet they can't accept that adult people also make medically necessary decisions about their body. They bend backwards to support anything that fits what society has labelled as normal, and are violently against anything they don't understand and thus spread misinformation about the topic.
What is a woman?
A reason that I really like learning about gender is because the more I learn the more it becomes obvious how bad sexism is and how much it can't be excused despite how much people try to excuse it.
Many people still use these biology excuses as an explanation for "why women are lesser than men" and these studies of gender that reveal other genders are our saviors, and it is precisely why many carriers of patriarchy despise ideas like this. Many people claim that by erasing the ideas of "men and women in gender" we are erasing the ideas of femininity and masculinity.
I say the opposite: by erasing the societal ideas of man and woman we are freeing everyone from these binds and constucts. Anyone can have the freedom to express themselves and it wouldn't reflect on their gender or sex. People could proclaim their own gender and there wouldn't be any confusion, everything would be simple and easy
We would no longer feel the need to label sports, clothing, movies music, etc. with a gender and instead would just be normal stuff that anyone can enjoy.
List of things women aren't allowed to enjoy due to steraotypes: action movies, rock music, video games, cars, sports, sex, having fun, dating, jokes, anything old
What is gender for?
"'Scientific' testing in response to rumors that some Eastern European competitors were trying to win glory for the Communist cause by cheating - having men masquerade as women to gain unfair advantage. The only known case of a man infiltrating a women's competition occurred back in 1936 when Hermann Ratjen, a member of the Nazi Youth, entered the woman's high jump competition as "Dora"."
This quote struck me because it is a perfect example of an ancient political and sexist idea being written into law, and never being changed. It really blew my mind when I read this becuase among all the talk about trans people trying to compete in the olympics I always wondered why gender mattered in sports anyways. The answer:
Well I talked about why straight men are the most hateful towards the idea of multiple gender because it undermines their ideas of sex and oppression. This is primarly why sex is such a big controversy in sports; why we still hold seperate sports based on gender because the straight men would lose their SHIT if women competed with them becuase it undermines their manliness.
If we deleted gender from something like sports, they would lose a lot of money. No more seperate events. The men would feel lesser than because a woman is competing with them; because they have labelled women as lesser than and a woman in your presence automatically makes them lesser than in their toxic standards.
Everything about gender sterotypes is rooted in women being lesser; this is why men don't understand why women hate them so much. Many men are jealous of women's ability to give birth so they label any woman who can't as not a woman. Probably because the same is done to them if they enjoy anything not masculine. This is why erasing gender is the answer.
Men don't want us to be equal!
By studying sex gender and politics, I have discovered the weak spot in sexism is to reveal multiple genders. By normalizing transgender, intersex and gender nonconforming people, we can truly defeat gender steotypes. A gender nonconforming person who dresses as man one day and a woman the next shatters hundreds of stereotypes.
For years, our society has implemented "seperate but equal" with the genders without knowing it. This is why so many men get upset when women speak out about abuse and assault. The men don't want to acknowledge their part in the equation, as well as what they gain from parading around as men their whole lives. By acknowledging that women struggle based on their gender, men everywhere have to acknowledge that their struggles were never because they were men. People don't like to recognize their priviledge.
Many straight men still ask why women are fighting and there are many men who hate feminists (because we are taking away their priviledge). They say that because we have the right to vote and can work (some) jobs, we have equality. Yet many men still have the ideal of a wife who stays at home and does all the housework and child work. By allowing a wife to have a career ( not just a desk job to bring in extra cash) they must then take on extra responsabilities at home. This is something they don't want to do.
As much as many men complain about not being able to show emotions, or having to work all day and provide for a family (both societies expectations due to the patriarchy) they do not work towards fixing it and in fact still use their maleness to their advantage whenever possible. People argue that the wage gap doesn't exist because men simply pick harder jobs: but don't realize how much society expects and relies on women to stay home and take care of the kids ( who will if the men refuse to?).
If straight men cannot come to terms, not only with their part in the patriarchy, but also how they can change to help the future generations, we will never get anywhere. We need straight men to get just as fed up as women have been for years; then they will begin to work towards a future that we can all be happy in. Men still rule us; women make up 27% of the house and 24/100 in the senate. Men are who we need in order to make a change because they have the power to silence and punish us like they have been for decades.
