principles 1. you must be presumed to have capacity 2. steps taken to help make a decision 3. an unwise decision does not mean you lack capacity 4. decisions must be in your best interest 5. decisions and actions must be at least restrictive as possible. ~ Audrey has dementia so she is unable to make decisions for herself so she has family to support her and an advocate.

enuresis pads to support Audrey to go to the toilet, provide female care and support workers. (incontinence)
she uses a walking frame due to her not being able to move anywhere and her mobility is deteriorating - she's gaining weight as she's forgetting to use her walking frame. This can be reduced by Audrey doing physical activities that include her using her walking frame.
Audrey doesn't like the male care and support workers so the residential care home could provide her with female care and support workers to meet her needs and wishes.
co-production - Sandra involves Kelly to plan/provide activities for Audrey and to meet her holistic development.
GP checks - pulse, blood pressure, temperature, sugars, blood tests and weight... it's more effective and it outlines to see if Audrey may need any other medication.
safeguarding issues - crushing tablets and not informing Audrey - whistle blow to the manger or designated safeguarding officer.
code of conduct - get consent
duty of care - a legal obligation to ensure the safety and well-being of others.
solutions to give her medication - try to find liquid formed medication, respecting her wishes if she doesn't want to take the medication.
provide training - for how to give Audrey her medications.
agencies they work with ~ multi agency - care and support worker, activities coordinator, manager of harbour house, GP, social worker... the benefits of this is Audrey will get the best possible care she can receive and she will get different professional opinions.
co-production - they increase their health and well being and they have a friendly community. The benefits of this is Audrey will feel like she has support at Harbour House and she may feel respected, she will maintain positive attitudes towards the staff and activities.
when Audrey is using her walking frame she enables her well being but when she's not using it she stays indoors and she is then isolated.
physical activities - walking, gardening, dance classes which then has a positive impact on her mental health.
she is gaining weight which can lead to heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and mobility issues. A solution for this could be Audrey participating in activities that help with her mobility and making sure she has plenty of exercise each day, make sure Audrey has a balanced diet.
co-production - working with the community (patient and worker care)
multi-agency - working with organisations/agencies and other professionals (social services, GP)
Audrey is only putting her thumbs up and not giving verbal consent to anything... if she doesn't remember she out her thumbs up it may be classed as abuse as the workers don't have any proof of her putting her thumbs up.
provide a care/activity plan for Audrey. This is because Audrey will have a routine and it may benefit her in the future.
CPD - continuous professional development ~ paragraph 6 which states how Audrey is starting to talk about how she used to like arranging flowers with her late husband.
transitions - Audrey has become a widow, suddenly moved to Harbour House due to the pressure it has on the family and Audrey has new medication due to her dementia
well-being - self esteem - independence (going to the toilet) Audrey can reduce this by asking for help when needing to go to the toilet, wearing enuresis pads for if she doesn't make it to the toilet in time.
