EXCRETORY SYSTEM - Coggle Diagram
EXCRETORY SYSTEM
Skin
Excretes excess salt and water through sweat via the sweat glands
Functions in thermoregulation - the ability of an organism to keep its body temperature normal
Layers of The Skin
Dermis - middle layer
Epidermis - top layer
Hypodermis - bottom layer
Lungs
The lungs exhale carbon dioxide.
Responsible for gas exchange
Liver
The liver breaks down toxic substances in the blood and convert nitrogenous waste into the urea.
The liver regulates most chemical levels in the blood and excretes a product called bile.
4 lobes of the Liver
Larger Right Lobe
Left Lobe
caudate lobe
quadrate lobe
Kidney
The major organs of excretion
A pair of bean-shaped organs located below the liver
Filters blood and regulate water balance in the body
3 Steps of Excreting Urine
Filtration
Blood enters a nephron, which filters out impurities.
Reabsorption
The impurities move through tubules, while the rest of the blood is reabsorbed through capillary walls into the blodd.
Excretion
Urine is transported from the kidneys through the ureters and into the urinary bladder. It remains stored in the bladder until it is released through the urethra.
The kidneys produce a waste product called urine using special functional units called nephrons.
