THE VISUAL EVOCATION OF MUSICAL IMPRESSIONISM
Impressionism originated in the world of painting. The work of Claude Monet in 1872, that was exhibited in 1874, and Monet suggested the title of Impression, Sunrise.
This set the foundations of a new artistic movement, particulary in the visual arts.

Sound arises from ambiguous chords without a defined key
Composition is organised in very free forms
Ancient, traditional and exotic modes from all over the world are used.
Melody isn't highlighted
Musical atmosphere is vague
Impressionism artists adopted nature as their source of inspiration and represented it in a personal manner
Chosen themes were often water or clouds.
