Mutation, Inversion, Duplication, Deletion - Coggle Diagram
Mutation
-
Types
Gene Mutations - a change in one or more genes, which results to different proteins being produced that can affect an organism's traits.
-
Frameshift Mutation - deletes or inserts a base that is not a multiple of 3, which disrupts the DNA sequence reading.
A base is removed.
A new base is added.
-
Mutation is the alteration of a gene's structure, leading in a variant form that could be passed down through generations.
Implication
Mutation in the gene's structure implies that there is a process of a mistake made in a DNA sequence as it's being copied or they need to adjust to their environment to survive.
Inversion
-
-
This is a chromosome rearrangement in which a segment of a chromosome is reversed end-to-end. Inversions are of two types: paracentric and pericentric.
Duplication
-
-
A type of mutation in which one or more copies of a gene or chromosomal region are produced. Duplication of genes is an essential for the evolutionary process.
Deletion
-
Type of mutation that is sometimes known as partial monosomies. It occurs when a fragment or chunk of chromosomal material is absent.
