Heart failure - Coggle Diagram

- - - - EX: digoxin; phosphodiesterase inhibitors

- - - - Results: decreases systemic vascular resistance, pulmonary vascular resistance, blood pressure, central venous pressure, left ventricular end diastolic pressure
- - - - PT teaching: notify providers if cough, rash, or signs of infection occur. first dose may cause orthostatic hypotension. monitor potassium levels
- - - - PT teaching: may be combined with hydrochlorothiazide; can be taken with or without food
- - - - interactions: verapamil and diltiazem
      - PT teaching: rebound hypertension may occur if medication is discontinued abruptly. tell pts to report weight gain, SOB as beta-blockers may precipitate heart failure. take apical pulse daily. administer IV form slowly
        
        contraindications: non-selective beta-blockers may cause respiratory depression in pts with asthma, COPD

        contraindications: pts with hyperkalemia, diabetes, liver impairment
- - - - pt teaching: IV infusion only - continuous infusion; monitor ECG
        
        contraindications: renal failure
- - - - PT teaching: short-term management of HF - continuous IV infusion and ICU setting; given when pt does not respond to treatment with digoxin, diuretics, and/or vasodilators
- - - - interactions: multiple interactions - do not take with high fiber foods
      - PT teaching: high risk for toxicity. follow Digoxin levels to determine dose. antidote: Digoxin Immune Fab (Digibind). drug levels must be monitored: 0.5-2 ng/mL
