SINGLE USE PLASTIC - Coggle Diagram
SINGLE USE PLASTIC
OCEAN
78 million tons of plastic packaging is produced each year, and about 32% of that ends up in the ocean.
-
500 billion single use plastic cups are used each year,
500,000 plastic straws are used each day
-
-
-
Solutions
I try and cut down on my plastic use by using reusable cups, straws, bags, water bottles, and cleaning bottles
-
I also want to educate people on the secondary effects of single use plastic as well as make it clear that if everybody made a small change in the products they by/ use then it would help decrease the amount of plastic in our oceans
-
-
Food Quality
Plastic can also contaminate them which effects the quality of food that we are eating/ have access too
the seafood contamination issue should matter to other people because I don't think anyone wants to eat contaminated food that has the potential to make them sick
-
if the problem gets bad enough that the seafood become too dangerous to eat and people can't get it anymore
-
Drecrease in Tourism
-
-
I think that people should care about a decrease in tourism because nobody should want a huge population of people to lose their jobs and suffer financially
-
I love going to the beach and so do many people I know, and seeing a bunch of plastic everywhere isn't my idea of a fun time at the beach
Mindset
. I feel like most people know about the issue and why it’s so bad, but I feel like a lot of those people continue to use single use plastic
people’s mindset is that their one change isn't going to make a difference, but if all of the people who think this was just made a change then their actions combine would make a huge difference
I think this perspective in the issue is major reason why there is no significant change happening with the amount of single use plastic used
-
Air Quality
effects the air quality, and not just by the ocean but everywhere
-
I have asthma and poor air quality makes it act up and be much worse, and more and more people will start developing these issues is the air quality keep getting worse.
