How to make "effective" soap
"Effective?"
How to know when it is effective
Can it neutralise an acid to create acid base neutralisation?
Tryglicerides - larger chain lengths means that it becomes less polar and therefore less soluble in water. Also they dont later as easily
Bases- The base impacts the fatty acids as it changes the solubility and density of soap bars.
Saturation- can impact the properties of soap as it can make soaps softer and more water soluble.
How to make it?
Production techniques
Using essentials oils, nutrietns and sodium hyrdoxide.
Cold production
Takes much longer
Hot production.
Less time to produce the soap.
Ingredients
vegatable oil
Lye(sodium hyrdoxide)
glycerol.
What is soap?
Soap
Soaps are sodium or potassium fatty acids salts, produced from the hydrolysis of fats in a chemical reaction called saponification. Each soap molecule has a long hydrocarbon chain, sometimes called its 'tail', with a carboxylate 'head'.
How does it work
Micelles- spherical structures that encapsulate oil and holds it so it can be washed away.
It functions as a surfactnat which emulsifies oils and allows them to be carried by water
Amphillic substance that is composed of a salt and a triglyceride molecule
