Verb Tenses
Simple Present
Used to indicate usual habits that happens in the present;
It's used to express universal truths, feelings, desires, opinions and preferences.
In the most times, the phrases of simple present use time expressions.
Simple Past
In English we use the simple past to express our habits and actions that happened in the past and finished. We can use it in the affirmative, negative or interrogative forms, each form has a specific structure
Negative:
When forming negative sentences in the simple past, it is necessary to add the verb did + not (contracted form: didn’t).
Interrogative:
When forming interrogative sentences in the simple past, it is necessary to place the auxiliary did before the subject of the sentence.
Affirmative form:
Formed by the subject + past tense of the main verb, and it is necessary to observe whether the verb is regular or irregular and so you will know its conjugation.
Regular Verbs:
- if the verb ends in “e”: they receive “d”.
- if the verb ends in a consonant/vowel/consonant and the last syllable is stressed, double the last consonant + “ed”.
- if the verb ends in a consonant + “y”: change it to “ied”.
- if the verb ends in a vowel + “y”: they receive “ed”.
- addition of the particles “d” and “ed” in the verbs.
Future Tense
The future tense is a grammar topic in which we can describe future situations using 4 ways that depend on what types of situation you are describing. We can use the simple future, the going to -future, the future continuous, future perfectprogressive and the future perfect.
Present continuous
The present continuous verb tense indicates that an action or condition is happening now, frequently, and may continue into the future.
he Present Continuous:
to be [am, is, are] + verb + ing [present participle]
