Electricity and direct current circuits
Electricity. Electrical energy
Electricity
Is a form of energy that lets negatively charged particles (electrons) move from one atom to another.
Electrical energy
Is the most common form of energy becouse it is easly to obtain. Can be transformed into many form of energy: light, heat, sound and motion.
Electric current
Is the flow of electrons form one atom to another inside a conductive material.
Conductors and insulators
Conductors
Materials thatlet electric current flow through them
Insulators
Materials that don´t let electic current flow through them
Representing circuits
Electrical schematic
Every component in a circuit standardised symol to represent it in a simple way that anybody con understand. This is an example:
Simple circuit with one-way switch and buzzer
Simple circuit with one-way switch and lamp
Components of a circuit
Power sources
Battery: A grouped set of cells
Cell: Supplieselctrical energy to the rest of the circuit.
Load devices
Resistor: Convert electrical energy to heat energy
Buzzer: Converts electrical energy to sound energy
Motor: Converts electrical energy to kinetic energy
Lamp: Converts electrical energy to light energy
Conductors
Wire: The component that the electric current flows through
Control devides
One-way switch: One-way switches open or close the cicuit when they are pressed. One position opens the circuit and stops the electric current from flowing through it; the other position closes the circuit and lets the electric current pass.
Push switch: Push switches open and close the circuit but only while the button is pushed. These devices can either be normally open (NO( or normally closed (NC), depending on what they do before they are pressed. NO switches can also be called push-to-make switches and NC switches can be called push-to-break switches
Two-way switch: Two-way switches have two positions. When we press them, they change from one position to the other. They are also called changeover switches.
Electric circuits. Components
Is a series of interconnected componets that an electricic current flows to produce an effect.
