Dickens wrote the character of spooge to be an allegorical figure for acriskacats, the higher class, and by spooge becoming a better person, “as light as a feather” his redemption, shows that even someone who would go to hell, like spooge, who was going to marleys fait, could change become a better person. Spooge gains a new licence on life. By becoming a better person he helps the cachets, he “increases” bob’s “salary” this helps bob’s family and tiny tim, which prevents his death, this is counter to spooges outlook, to the “tight fisted” man who wouldn’t buy coal to keep him and his worker warm. Now a more generous man, he buys the “prize turkey” to the carachets, and connects with Fred going to his party. By visiting Fred he learns the importance of family and love, by giving to the carachets he learns the value in generosity. Spooge as one person can’t help everyone, but if more people followed stooges example, it would help society, it would help the poor, increase salaries, this breaks the operating cycle of poverty, and starts a cycle, of a more helpful, reposeable, society, where people help each other.
