Telephone - Alexander Graham Bell 1876. Great for the hearing community, not great for Deaf community.
TTY 1960 - Robert Weitbrecht machines were enormous, noisy, and expensive. Not good for calling 911
VRS - video software. Deaf caller, person speaks and signs to another hearing caller. Not good for DeafBlind and others with disabilities.
Mobile phone - helps the Deaf community to communicate via text or video, however this is not great for those DeafBlind who use braille to communicate
Alarms - From a heavy bag or item dropping to the floor, to the lamps turning on and off, vibrating systems for waking up, or a ringing doorbell, dogs who alert, phones with flashing lights or vibrating, pagers are used by Deafblind to recognize if an infant is awake, or video or baby cams where a person can see their child.
Security Alarms - Flashing lights or vibration alerts, some use a text message to inform the owner. Some alarm alerts vibrate the mattress in case of fire, smoke or carbon monoxide.
Emergency- We all need to be informed if there is an emergency. TV with news and a flash alert, or the radio. for Deaf People they relay in interpreters who deliver news as the emergency is explained.
In hospitals a vide or VRI can be used when the medical personnel does not sign. VRI services wont work when the Deaf person and the hearing person (non signer) are in the same room
Technology might be an issue operating the VRI, poor internet connection or the screen been so small might not guarantee a proper service.
New technology like Apps, "Cardzilla" are used to communicate and order food or drinks. Fingerspelling apps, body signs, text to speech, gestures recognition,
Sign glasses: a live interpreter taking you through a museum visit, also has a microphone for the speaker. You see the interpreter inside the glasses. Chemistry classes can improve with this technology and even math. No longer you need to look up to your interpreter, the interpreter follows you where your eyes are.
How Deaf citizens can be aware of emergencies? baby crying? someone at the door, UPS delivery, food delivery?

Silent movies were amazing for the Deaf community, after actors began speaking there was no connection
CC, OC, RWC, Netflix, Fox network, Google, YouTube. Not accurate 100% wrong words, delayed, not same meaning.
