Hyperthyroidism
Elevated T3 and T4
Radiation treatment can reduce T3+T4 to require supplementation
Decreased TSH
increased T3 and T4 decreases need for thyroid stimulation
Common Signs & Symptoms
Anxiety and irritability.
A fine tremor of the hands or fingers.
Heat sensitivity and an increase in perspiration or warm, moist skin.
Weight loss, despite normal eating habits.
Enlargement of the thyroid gland (goiter)
Change in menstrual cycles
most common In kids ages between 12-14 years old
Treatment
antithyroid drugs, steroids, and beta blocker
surgery to remove a nodule or entire thyroid
Radioactive Iodine Therapy
Risk Factors:
more common in women than men
Other immune disorders such as type 1 diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis
Family history of graves disease
Age (more common before age 40)
