My Self-Care Pathway using the ANA Framework
Physical
Area for growth
When in a rush or am on the road, I tend to lean towards fast food options. An area of growth for me regarding this would be meal prepping to cut down on the need to do this
Based on ANA and the content discussed in my nutrition course, I know how important what you put into your body is.
Strengths
I work hard to maintain a healthy diet of food that I not only enjoy, but that nourishes my body as well and plan to continue doing so
Challenges
I have an unhealthy relationship with working out, I eaither do it too much or not at all
I would like to create a plan that works around my schedule to work out at a healthy rate and do so for my own health
Mental
Challanges
I often multitask, rather than focus on one thing at a time
I would like to make a schedule to focus on certain duties for specified time slots throughout the day, rather than multiple tasks at once to try and complete as much as possible
Strengths
I practice deep breathing to help "clear my head" when anxious. This helps me organize my thoughts and eases anxiety, which makes it a tool I plan to continue utilizing
Area for growth
I need to work on reducing my negative self-talk and focusing on positive
Through class content, I've learned the importance of being kind to myself and its effect on my mind, body, and soul. I noticed during discussion how negative my self-talk has been and the effect that has on my mental health. I believe that improving in this area by using positive self-talk and affirmations would be beneficial
Emotional
Area for growth
I need to work on improving how I initially process emotions, rather than allowing them to overwhelm me
The ANA framework used telling yourself "this too shall pass" as a form of emotional self-care rather than allowing the feeling to consume you. Additionally, 7 habits of highly resilient nurses recommended using a "letting go" concept to release one's hold on things they can't control. Understanding how much impact how I process emotions has on my resiliency proved to me how important of a growth area this is for myself
Strengths
I feel things very deeply, especially for others. This contributes to my compassion and empathic abilities, which makes me a better future nurse. This is a part of who I am as an individual and something I plan on continuing.
Challanges
I would like to determine a healthier way to process what I'm feeling such as confiding in someone I'm close with
Bottling up my emotions until I feel incredibly overwhelmed by them
Spiritual
Strengths
I place a great deal of importance on my compassion for others
I plan to continue showing kindness and empathy to everyone I encounter despite the situation
Challenges
Placing the completion of work over pursuing spiritual aspects of my life
I would like to work towards strengthening my spirituality through attending church and meditation
Area for growth
Revisiting my own morals and values that I place importance on
I I know this is a growth area because I've felt lost on certain decisions lately and have been unable to determine what matters the most to me, rather than choosing what others want. I believe that this will also help me gain strength spiritually, which is essential in my ability to be resilient as well.
Relationships
Stregths
I work hard to truly connect with those in my life, rather than having "surface level" relationships
Challenges
I often feel bad for cutting ties with toxic people, even if they're draining to my own wellbeing
I would like to recognize the signs of toxic individuals and distance myself in a kind way early on before allowing that energy to drain mine
Area for growth
I will take time each day to either spend time with those in my life or call them to check in
I know that this will help to continue building strong, as well as maintaining, health relationships in my life, which I know is essential to my own well being based on the content we've discussed
Choice
Strengths
I work hard to do things that "feed my soul" to avoid burnout. I plan to continue doing this as well as reminding myself of the love I have for this field when overwhelmed
Challenges
Placing crossing things off my to-do list above my own physical and mental health
I would like to do better about implementing taking care of myself as just as important as completing tasks
Areas of growth
I will continue making choices that align with my own values, which I know is important based on our in class discussions and assigned readings
I will continue shopping for my groceries in a more sustainable way such as utilizing Aldi's, cutting down on excess plastic packaging, and only purchasing items I know I will consumer before their expiration
