government offered loans up to 1000 Reichmarks to couples who got married - the loan was cut by a quarter for every child they had
Marriages increased from 515,000 to 772,000 from 1932-39
births were not as successful - average per couple was 6.6 in 1932 but only 3.3 in 1939
Workers
in 1932, 6 million were unemployed, but 1939 only 35,000 out of 25million were unemployed
Small craftsmen

were prioritised - 1933 the

increased taxes on larger stores
May 1933 the
Reich entailed farm law
was passed - forced land to be given to the eldest son. This was unpopular and the rural population fell from 21% to 18%

Volkswagen scheme
(1938) allowed workers to pay 5 makrs a week to earn a car, but no-one ever did

Nazis controlled the curriculum by teaching the values and beliefs of the Nazis
1936, 97% of teachers were members of the
Nazi Teachers league
Hitler youth
set up fr children, other groups were closed down - this indoctrinated the youth using military games and political songs
Poor children enjoyed going on organised holiday camps set up by the Nazis (Hitler youth) which became very popular
although it was compulsory in 1936, some children hated being forced to attend the Hitler youth and
Jewish discrimination
Ubermenschen
- Nazis believed this group were the master race: strong, athletic Aryans (Blonde hair and blue eyes)
Untermenchen
- Nazis believed this group were inferior or sub-human: included Jews, Gypsies and Slavs
1933, Jews were no longer allowed to be lawers or judges
1935 the
Nuremburg Laws
was a major turning point. It made marriage between Germans and German Jews illegal and took their legal rights away - now subjects not citizens
November 1938,
Kristallnacht
(the night of broken glass) - Nazi official had been killed in Paris so Goebbels encouraged Jewish buisnesses and synagogues to be attacked
297 synagogues were destroyed and the SS arrested 30,000 men and put them in concentration camps
