Unit 1. Personal Pronouns
Definition of Pronouns
Words used to take the place of one or more nouns are called pronouns. A pronoun can replace a noun or another pronoun. When using a pronoun, you can refer to the same person, place, thing, or idea without using the same noun every time. Pronouns like "he," "which," "none," and "you" are used to make your sentences less cumbersome and less repetitive.
Personal Pronoun
A pronoun is personal if it refers to the person speaking. It is also personal if it refers to the person being spoken to or the person being spoken about.
First Person. The first person is the person speaking.
I, we me, us, my, mine, our, ours
Second Person The second person is the person spoken to. you, your, yours
Third Person The third person is the person or thing spoken about. he, she, it his, her, hers, its
him, her, it
they, them, their, theirs

Affirmative Staments.
An affirmative statement states that something is true. In an affirmative statement, the verb follows the subject.
Negative Statements
Negative statements are formed by adding the word not after the verb in the Simple
Present of the verb to be.
The most common way to put a phrase in the negative is by using "not."
Generally, "not" must follow an auxiliary verb ("to be", "to do")
Questions
To ask questions with the verb 'to be:' Place the verb in
front of the subject.
Is Mary with you?
Short and Long Answers.
In casual conversation, short answers are much more common than long answers. Long answers are for more formal conversations or if you want to give more information in your response.
Unit 4. The Noun and the Adjective
The Noun
Nouns make reference to persons, places, ideas or things.
The Adjective
Words which are used to modify a noun or pronouns are usually referred to as Adjectives. An adjective makes reference to quality of a noun or pronoun in the same case it modifies the noun or pronoun giving more information about them. Adjectives don’t change in gender or number.
Practice
Write the names of three people who are important to you: a friend, a relative or somebody famous.
