Electricity
Components of a circuit
Control devices
One-way switch
One-way switches open or close the circuit when they are pressed. One position opens the circuit and stop the elctric current from flowing througt it; the other position closes the circuit and lets the circuit current pass.
Push switch
Push switches open and coles the circuit but only while the button is pushed. This devices can either be normaly open (NO) or normaly closed (NC), depending on what they do before they are pressed. NO switches can also be called push-to-make switches and NC switches can be called push-to-break switches.
Two-way switch
Two-way switches have two positions. When we press them, they change from one position to the other. They are also called changeover switches.
Power sources
Cell
Suppiles elctrical energy to the rest of the circuit. Cells have a positive terminal and a negative terminal; this lets them supply electric current to the circuit when they are connected.

Resistor
A load device that opposes the flow of the elctric current. Converts electrical energy to heat energy.
-
Electrical energy
Electricity is a form of energy that lets negatively charged particles (electrons) move from one atom to another.

Types of circuits
Series circuit
In these circuits, all the components are connected one after the other. This way, all the current flows throught all the loaddevices.
-
-
Even if one of the load devices stops working, the rest continue to work because the electric current takes another path.
-
Parallel circuit
In these circuits, the load devices are connected on different branches of the wire.

Shorts circuits
In an electric circuit, a short circuit occurs when the electric current is transported by the wires without passing through a load device.
To detect a short circuit, we need to remember that electrons always take the easiest path; in other words, they flow along the path that offers the least resistance.
For example in the circuit in the figure, the current never passes through the lamps.
