Electricity and direct current circuits
ELECRICAL ENERGY
Is the most common form of energy, it can be transpoted over a long distances and it can easily be transformate into many other forms
Electric current is the flow of electrons from one atom to another inside a conductive material
Electtricity is a form of energy thats lets negatively charged particles move from one atom to other
Atoms are very small particles this atoms are made of other particles are three types
Protons
Neutons
Electrons
Conductors and insulators
Insulators
Don't let electric current flow through them, for example
Conductors
Let electric current flow through them, for example
Electric circuits. Components
An electric circuit is a series of interconnected components that an electric current flows through to produce an effect, like light, heat, sound or motion.
There are four main components in an electric circuit
Conductors:components that transport the electrical energy from the power sources to the load devices.
Load devices:components that recive the electrical energy.
Power sources: components that the necesary electrical energy to the rest of the circuit.
Control devices:devices that regulate the circuit they allow or prevent the flow of electric current through the circuit.
REPRESENTING CIRCUIT: ELECTRICAL SCHEMATICS
load devices
buzzer: converts electrical energy to sound energy
resistor: converts electrical energy to heat energy
Motor: converts electrical energy to kinetic energy
Lamp: converts electrical energy to light energy
power sources
cell: supplies electrical energy to the rest of the circuit
battery: a grouped set of cells
control devices
push switch: they open and close the circuit but only while the botton are pressed
two-way switch: have two positions. When we press them, they change from one position to the other
one-way switch: they open or close the circuit when they are pressed
conductors
wire: the component that the electric flows through
CONVERTING ELECTRICAL ENERGY
Heat
When electrons move through a conductors or load devices, they create frightion with the material as they pass through, which producces heat.
Motion
We can also convert electricity to motion using a motor. The effect of obtained when we make an electric current flow throught a motor.
Light
We can convert elecrticity to light through load devices.
Sound
We can used electrical energy to transmit sounds throught microphones and we can produce sound effects throught sirens, buzzers and bells.
OPEN CIRCUIT AND CLOSED CIRCUITS
Circuits are controlled by switches that open and close the circuit when they are pressed
a circuit are closed when the energy of the power sources reaches the load devices, so the electricity current flows.
a circuit is open when the energy of the power sources cannot reach the load devices, so the electric current cannot flow
TYPES OF CIRCUITS: series, parallel and series-parallel combination
Circuits can have different characteristics depending on how we arrange the load devices.
Series circuits. All the components are connected one after the other. There is only one posible path for the electric current to flow throught
The same current flows throgh all the load devices
If one load devices stops working none of the will work because the circuit will be open.
The lamps will not be very bright because the energy supplied by the cell is shared among all three
Parallel circuits: The load devices are connected on different branches of the wire.
More electric current flows in the branch that offerts the least resistance.
Even if one of the load devices stops working.
The current does not flow equally trought all the load devices.
The lamps will shine very brightly because the energy from the cell reaches them directly.
Series-parallel combination circuits: These circuits contain devices connected in series and in parallel.
ENERGY AND THE ENVIROMENT
The production, transportation and consumption of electricity, have an impact on our enviroment to varying degrees.
Enviromental impact of energy production and transmission
Responsible use of electrical energy
