Antigens and Antibodies
Antigens: large molecules that trigger an immune response; body makes "self" antigens before birth, directed against non self molecules
-
Cells in Immune System
B cells
- comes from bone marrow, located in lymphatic tissues or in lymphocytes in the blood; provides humoral immune response where cells produce antibodies to destroy antigens; produces clones of cells
T cells
- originated from bone marrow; ;located in 70-80% lymphocytes; provides cellular immune response where T cells interact with antigens
-
Cytotoxic T cells - monitors cells, eliminating cancer and virus infected cells
Memory T cells- quick response to any future exposure to antigen;divide to produce cytotoxic T cells
Cytokines- form helper t cells, activates cytotoxic cells
