Definition of decision making
The thought process of selecting a logical choice from the available
options.
When trying to make a good decision, a person must weigh the positives and
negatives of each option, and consider all the alternatives. For effective decision
making, a person must be able to forecast the outcome of each option as well,
and based on all these items, determine which option is the best for that
particular situation.
Steps in drawing basic mapping
1.start with an open mind, free your mind let your idea flow.
2.record your thoughts quickly, the brain works effectively in six to eight minutes spurts.write down key words, symbols or image as they occur in mind.
3.put down everything that comes to your mind including unrelated idea.
4.use coloured paper, odd size is Okey ,the bigger the sheer of paper the more ideas you'll have.
5.start in the centre of the paper of the paper and not the upper left hand corner where your left brain may want you want to think about it the centre of the paper.
6.As ideas come to you, write them in one or two word description on lines branching out from the main topic.
Keep writing with your hand in constant motion. If your ideas slow down, draw empty lines and your brain will automatically search for ideas.
8.to reenergize your brain, change colours or your position, stand up and mind map to generate more energy.
9.Quite often you can see relationships of ideas and connect them immediately to existing branches or lines.
Sometimes patterns or ideas do not appear to be linked so connect them to central topic.
The concept of Problem Solving
The thinking involved in making decisions or in recommending a course of action
deserves special attention.
If we are to make decisions well, we need to
avoid the common weaknesses in thinking of this kind, so we need to be clear
what the problem is
In getting clear what the problem is this may necessitate formulating objectives,
though not necessarily.
we need to be as
imaginative as possible, but we must then judge carefully, how likely they are and
how valuable to come to a rational decision.
There are simple ideas but they have proved their value over many years and are
widely used.
Charles Darwin says, in his Autobiography that he used the method
of spelling out pros and cons in deciding whether to marry! I am not sure how well
the method applies in such case but it is very useful in many decision-making
situations.
