Problems in speaking class
Some students are dominating the class
When the students are working in groups or in pairs try to match students according to their levels in order to crate a balance among them. so try not to make "advanced students together" and Students with difficulties together. Instead we should try to promote advanced students helping students who struggle.
Identify the students who are having difficulties and try to help them
Students are making too many errors as they speak
Before starting the speaking activity the teacher can review vocabulary students might use while performing the and put especial attention to words that could cause some pronunciation difficulties.
Students feel they are not participating enough
Implement activities like passing the marker so that the students participate randomly and not only the ones that participate most of the time
Implemente different types of speaking activities which makes it possible for all the students to participate equally
Students are using their native language
Make sure the students know the language functions to be used.
Make sure students are provided with a wide range of vocabulary that can be useful for the speaking activity.
Make sure the students are clear about the grammar structures to be used.
Students do not show any interest in the topic
Teachers should analyze their students taking into consideration factors such as age, sex, interests, level, and assess the appropriateness of the chosen topic.
Try to find a funny topic
Try to find a topic to which they are related and maybe have personal experiences that they can share.
Students feel inhibited
Implement roleplay activities
Identify the appropriate topics which they already know about.
Remind then they are not going to be judged since making mistakes is part of the learning process (Based on my own teaching experience making this type of comments strongly reduce student's stress or anxiety)
