White v Jones (1995)
A father wanted to make a will leaving each of his daughters £9,000. He wrote to his solicitors, telling them to amend his will to include this. The solicitors received the letter but didn't do anything about it until the father died. After not initially inheriting any money, the daughters successfully sued the solicitor to claim the money they had lost.
Showed Barristers and Solicitors could be liable for negligence to persons who are not their clients but who are affected by their negligent work
Hall v Simmons(2000)
Three firms of solicitors were sued by the clients for negligent advocacy. The courts were bound by the previous decision (Rondel v Worsley (1969). The House of Lords then reversed the decision using the Practise Statement 1966
